Career Information and Professional Development
"I am already
performing technical writing and implementing instructional
designs as a contractor for major companies such as
Hewlett-Packard Company, Johnson & Johnson and Procter &
Gamble. I recommend this course to anyone who wants to
advance in the IT field as a writer." |

Contract Technical Writer |
Professional writers, or technical writers, put specific information into
easily understandable language.
For example, technical writers take product directions or instructions
and
re-phrase
them in a way that is easily understandable by any consumer. They may
also plan
and edit technical materials and oversee the preparation of illustrations, photographs, diagrams, and charts.
Or, they may be employed to help
companies write training materials and processes.
Opportunities are best for technical writers with training in a specialized field. Legal and scientific developments and discoveries generate demand for people to interpret technical information for a more general audience. Rapid growth and change in the high technological and electronic industries have also resulted in a greater need for people to write user guides, instruction manuals, and training materials. This work requires people who are not only technically skilled as writers, but are also familiar with the subject matter. In many cases, people with excellent writing skills can acquire the specialized knowledge on the job.
