Project #2: Composites of waste PET with natural fibers
Development of high-performance composites of waste PET with natural fibers, via exploiting the chemical structural changes of the materials. The recycled materials were produced through thermochemical recycling of waste PET following by reactive extrusions with several additives. The potential applications of the recycled materials are in the sectors of building and automotive products.
Project #3:Enzymatic devulcanization of rubber vulcanizates and processing of new materials
Appropriate strains of enzymes are cultivated for devulcanization of sulfur crosslinked waste rubber products in powder forms. After devulcanization rubber powders are isolated and characterized for key characteristics including chemical functionality, crosslinking, and melt-flow properties. The devulcanized rubber are used to blend with other compounding agents to create new materials using high shear thermal extrusion.
