The Wiregrass Archives, working with the City of Dothan to commemorate America 250, has prepared excerpts of oral history interviews with Dothan civilians and veterans who served in World War 2, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
In addition to this website, the Wiregrass Voices of Veterans Project has produced a traveling exhibit of easy-to-install panels that introduce each narrator and link via QR code to their individual recording.
Between 2003 and 2009, the Wiregrass Archives, local residents, and Troy University Dothan Campus Oral History classes recorded analog interviews with local veterans. In 2016, a US History teacher from Houston Academy donated many years of class oral histories to the Wiregrass Archives -- many of those were with area veterans as well.
Dr. Martin Olliff, Archives Director, chose to excerpt interviews based on a number of factors including deployment, home of the interviewee, audio clarity, and story-like narrative.
