Arboretum Rules and Usage Statement






General Rules: 

1. Park in designated parking areas only. 

2. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. 

3. No fires allowed without special permission. 

4. All wildlife is protected. No fishing or hunting allowed. 

5. All plants are protected. No picking, cutting, or digging of plants allowed. 

6. Stay on the trails. 

7. No motorized vehicles (UTV’s, dirt bikes, ATV’s) allowed on trails. 

8. Arboretum closed at sunset. 

9. All group events and use of the building must be scheduled through the Troy University Biology Department. 

 These rules are designed for the safety of our visitors and to protect the environment. If you have questions please contact the Arboretum Director.    

Use of the Forest Resources Educational Complex: 

1. Only educational related events/activities may be scheduled (no parties, weddings, or for-profit events). 

2. Each event must have a Troy University faculty member as the designated contact and responsible party. That individual must be present for the entire duration of the event. 

3. University classes and labs have priority. 

4. Scheduling use of the facility and approval is through the Biology Department/Arboretum Director. Ms. Sabrina Lasseter, Departmental Secretary for the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences maintains the master schedule of room use. She should be notified of the day(s)/time of your class/event. (mslasseter@troy.edu or 334-808-6289). 

5. Some areas of the facility are off limits due to equipment storage, chemicals, etc. These areas will be pointed out and should be avoided. 

6. No staples, thumbtacks, nails, tape, or adhesive can be used on walls, doors, or exterior of the building/deck. 

7. All set-up and clean-up are the responsibility of the faculty member sponsoring the activity. Any spills must be cleaned up immediately. All food waste and trash must be removed from the Arboretum. Tables and chairs need to be returned to the arrangement they were in before the event. 

 8. It is the responsibility of the sponsoring faculty member to secure any AV equipment for use. WiFi is not available. 

9. The use of glitter, paint, silly-string, and water guns is strictly prohibited. 

10. It is the responsibility of the faculty member sponsoring events at night, on weekends, or holidays to unlock the building and to turn off lights, secure all doors and lock the building at the end of the event. For events occurring outside normal operating hours (M-F, 8am-5pm) University Police must be notified in advance (troychief@troy.edu ). 

11. University relegations require all food/beverages be provided by Sodexo. Contact them at: Catering Office (334) 670-3454 catering@troy.edu 

 12. Parking is allowed in designated areas only. The drive cannot be blocked. Parking on the grass around the building is not permitted. 

13. All Arboretum Rules apply outside of the building. 

14. All night time events are restricted to the building. The trails and pond are closed after dark due to liability. 

15. Use of the facility is a privilege, and misuse or violations of the rules may prevent future usage.
