Internet Projects
This section will serve as a place to examine sample of projects that utilize the Internet's capabilities to enhance the work of a teacher or a group of teachers. The nature of the projects require that someone be able to post pages to the Internet. There is a collaborative effort running through these teacher-initiated projects. Some may be short, while others may run for some time. The common thread of these examples is that the project is initiated by someone locally to help solve the problem of finding a suitable methodology to teach some piece(s) of the curriculum.

If you are interested in participating in a project initiated by someone else, try some of these links to get started.

Sample Internet Project Initiated by You

Curriculum Topic - Probability/Statistics:

The purpose of this activity is to provide a real need for analyzing data. The specific objectives would include the graphing of data, determining the mean of a set of data, and using statistical processes to predict. My students will utilize pencil/paper, calculator, and computer to analyze the results that are emailed to the teacher(me). A suitable graph will be produced by the class weekly.

Email entries for this week          View Results of Last Week

Project Description: You are invited to participate in a probability/statistics project that takes place weekly. You may have up to 5 guesses for a number between 1 and 100. I will determine the mean of all of the guesses of all participants for that week. The individual who guesses (or comes closest) to the mean of all entries is the winner. I will post the top three participants on the Wall of Fame.

Project Guidelines:

  1. Please make only one entry of up to 5 guesses per week.
  2. Results will be posted on Thursday of each week. Entries for the week's guesses must be received prior to 6:00 PM (eastern standard time) on Wednesday to be counted for that week.
  3. You must indicate a name (real or alias) if you want to be listed on the Wall of Fame.
  4. A school name is optional, but I would like to recognize the schools that participate.

Sample Email:

School: ABC School
Student: Student's Name
Guesses for the Week: 56, 34, 25.2, 55, 73

Thanks for helping my class learn probability/statistics. The raw data for each week is provided to allow you to use the project with your classes too!
