Desktop Launch for Excel's Help

Talk about shortcuts to Excel....Have you ever wanted to look up something in Excel and needed the Help to find it? You probably had to launch Excel and then click on the Help to get started. If you did this very often, you might just want to start with Excel's Help and not even launch Excel. The steps are really very easy and don't put too much strain on your overcrowded desktop.

The file you want is located on your hard drive at this location.

The file you want is called.... XLMAIN11.CHM

Locate it by opening the nested collection of folders until you can see the file. Then
RIGHT-CLICK on the file.

This should display the Right-Click options.

Depending on your setup, you should see something like the image on the left.

Take the Desktop (create shortcut) choice.

This will create a small icon on your desktop. Launch it like any other application with a double-click and you will open the Help file without having to launch Excel.

This is not a particularly intuitive name for Excel's Help. Rename the icon to something that will remind you what application will be launched and you are finished. Easy!
