The research component of the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness (OIRPE) involves preparing analyses, surveys, and reports for the University and for federal, state, and other external agencies. Annually, the OIRPE derives information from various reports and publishes a Fact Book of information about Troy State University. PLANNING
The planning
component requires that the IRPE coordinate all planning activities
(annual and strategic), provide data to assist in planning for the University,
provide guidelines for planning, and maintain copies of the planning
documents.
The ORPE has developed a method of planning that uses
the Annual Institutional Effectiveness Cycle.
The cycle includes
the Six Points of Institutional Effectiveness (SPIE) that establish
parameters for the Annual Assessment Reports (AAR)
that provides
information and PFI for the Annual Plans (AP) that is funded by the
Annual Budget and evaluated by the Statement of Achievements (SOA) after
implementation of the plan. The cycle is applied to all areas of the
University (Academic and Non-Academic).
To further aid in planning,
the Vice President of OIRPE serves as liaison with the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges (COC) and the
Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE).
EFFECTIVENESS
The effectiveness
component of the IRPE involves coordinating program assessments including
Major Field Tests (MFT) and the General Education Competency Examination
(GECE--the Academic Profile) and surveying students (graduating, undergraduate,
and graduate), employers, and alumni.
All students who were
juniors fall 1998 and thereafter are required to take the GECE which
is offered at least five times each term, and the OIRPE coordinates
all aspects of this testing program.
To provide effectiveness
results to improve programs and services of the University, the OIRPE
annually publishes the
Compendium of Survey and Test Results
that
provides University-wide results from
surveys, the GECE, and the
ACT to all faculty, staff, and administrators.
In addition to University-wide surveying and testing, OIRPE is responsible for the Institutional Effectiveness Committee (IEC). Review of all revised or new programs including substantive change proposals to SACS must first be reviewed by the IEC before going to the Academic Council or Graduate Council. PERSONNEL
