Bio
A native Trojan, John Jinright graduated with honors from B-SC in 1984 with a music/business degree and spent the next 6 years working in the music industry. Along the way, he was a buyer for Nuncies, started a music store (Bandstand, Inc) in Birmingham, played vibes in a Dixieland band (Jack Marshall and the Alabama Dixiecats), and piano in a big band (Tony Marino and The Checkmates) plus filled in on percussion with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. He moved to Montgomery when Bandstand Inc. closed and worked with Jim Darby at Capitol Music developing a new sales territory.
Through his travels to and interactions with students and teachers in music education classrooms throughout central Alabama, he felt called to the teaching profession. He left the music industry and began working on a master's degree in music education at TROY. He started teaching in 1992 at Troy and began working on his Ph.D. at the University of Alabama, but found Auburn to be a better fit philosophically and geographically.
It took him ten years to finish his degree, partly because of his teaching overloads at TROY and his growing distaste for multiple regression techniques. He was promoted to assistant professor of music when he earned his Ph.D. in 2003. His insistence on the viability of a music business program at TROY began the development of the new general music/music industry track to satisfy requirements brought about by the "No Child Left Behind" Act. He promptly began his Protools training leading to his Operator's certification and subsequently a Digidesign educational partnership with Troy University. In 2008 he gained the rank of associate professor.
At Troy, he teaches music theory, applied oboe and bassoon, audio production, and serves as an accompanist. He is a veteran accompanist of many musical theatre productions and served as musical director/accompanist of recent Troy University Theatre productions of Robber Bridegroom, Forever Plaid, and Nunsense. John is married to Penny and has two wonderful daughters; Tessa and Jessica. A Presbyterian convert to Anglicanism, he is presently on loan to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church of Troy, where he serves as organist.

Stormworks; Chapter 1 PRIME: A WISH to the World
"Across the suite A Wish to the World, we have paid tribute to unsung heroes, described situations a hero must face, and told a story about the not-too-distant past... and future. In Heart of the Hero, we discover that quiet and relentless song, that quality which is forever held in the Heart of such an individual. Innocent, perhaps humorous, the Hero faces adversity often... but in the Hero's heart, a courageous theme plays without bound. The Hero prevails. " (composer Stephen Melillo, homepage)
