Point-Quarter Sampling





 Read "The Point-Quarter Method" on pages 728 and 729 in your textbook  before your lab period.

Using the random numbers below,  select 5 points along a line transect running  through the study area.  Each point represents the center of four compass directions (N, S, E, and W), which divide the sampling site into four quarters. In each quarter record the species of the nearest tree. Construct three transects and calculate N, f, IS and ID.

ID= linear density index .

Where n is the total number of individuals of a species and L is the total  length of the transect sampled
