Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much does the program cost?
A. The cost of the program is $1,000 per course. This includes tuition, books, and fees.

Q. Do you have to attend a class or is the entire program Internet-based?
A. The program requires two residential sessions [one at the beginning of the program and one at the end of the program]. Essentially, you only will need to plan for two weekends for the entire 24-month program. These two weekends will either be on-campus or in a Birmingham location.

Q. What are the requirements for graduate admission at Troy State University?
A. The admission requirements can be found in our graduate bulletin that is posted on website. The address for this site is: http://spectrum.troy.edu/~ascpa/

Q. How long does it take to complete the program?
A. The courses are offered sequentially over a 24-month period.

Q. Can you take more that one course at a time?
A. No. The courses are offered sequentially, one at a time.

Q. How long does each course last?
A. Each course lasts approximately ten weeks.

Q. Why is a proctored exam required in every course?
A. Proctored exams protect the credibility of your program and satisfy accreditation standards.

Q. Are courses transferred from another University accepted for credit toward the degree?
A. Yes. After you complete six semester hours [two courses] with Troy State University you may petition for graduate transfer credit of up to four, equivalent courses. Typically, the only accounting-related courses that are accepted are LAW 6600 [Law for Accountants], and ACT 6691 [Managerial Accounting].

Q. Will the EMBA diploma refer to the ASCPAs Program?
A. No, your diploma is the same as those of all students who earn MBA degrees from Troy State University.

Q. How do I register for the ASCPAs EMBA Program?
A. The entire registration process is on-line. You will find the application for graduate admission on our website at: http://spectrum.troy.edu/~ascpa/

Q. If, after looking at the FAQ and other information on the website, who should I contact to answer additional questions?
A. The advisor for students in the MBA Accounting Option program is Dr. Steve Grice. You may reach him by email at sgrice@trojan.troy.edu.

Q. How many CPE hours are earned by taking one course?
A. In the State of Alabama, fifteen [15] hours of CPE credit are allowed for each semester hour of a college/university-level course.  Hence, you will be allowed 45 hours of CPE credit for each course in this program.
