Other opportunities to sing may arise during the semester.  All of these opportunities will be on a volunteer basis.

 

Copies of Handel’s Messiah are available from JW Pepper for $7.95.  It is highly suggested that each singer obtain his/her own personal copy of the score.

We will submit a mass order at the beginning of the semester for those students wishing to purchase Messiah scores.

 

CONCERT CLOTHING:

Women:  Collegiate Singers Black Dress, pearl choker, pearl earrings, black closed-toed shoes.

 

Men:  Black tuxedo, white shirt, black tie, black cummerbund

We will order these for anyone who does not have them.  Women’s dresses are $59.00 plus $4.00 shipping.  Pearl choker is $5.00, earrings $3.00.  Men’s five piece tuxedo outfit, including pants, jacket, shirt, tie and cummerbund is $92.00 plus $4.00 shipping. If you already have a tuxedo you do not need a new one.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES:

Preparation and performance of music from the standard choral repertoire both old and new.  Emphasis will be on music of noteworthy value including the monuments of music.  A major choral work from the classical repertoire will be chosen once every year as a Choral Masterworks concert in which Collegiate Singers will perform with orchestra.

 

COURSE ASSIGNMENTS AND PROCEDURES:

Singers are expected to attend every rehearsal ready to sing.  Rehearsals will begin on time. 

 

Singers are expected to attend every performance.  A University-approved absence excuse will be provided whenever a performance interferes with regularly scheduled classes.

 

GRADING:

Attendance and Class Participation:       50%

Preparation:                                          25%

Performance:                                        25%

Competency will be reached with a total grade of 74% ("C") or better in each assessed area.

 

INCOMPLETE GRADES
An incomplete grade means that because of extraordinary circumstances a student has been unable to fulfill all the requirements for completion of the course.  In rare instances a grade of  Incomplete will be given.  Students receiving an incomplete will complete an extra assignment, usually a paper.  This work must be completed in the next semester the student is enrolled at Troy University according to the guidelines set forth in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

 

ALL MUSIC MAJORS are required to attend the Wednesday afternoon recital series. Attendance will be taken.

 

ATTENDANCE POLICY
As noted in the Undergraduate Handbook, students accept responsibility for attending scheduled class meetings and completing assignments.  Allowances will be made for the occasional absence, especially with advanced notice.  Singers who are feeling slightly under the weather but who do not have a fever should attend rehearsal, even though they might not sing.  There are important concepts and interpretive markings built into each rehearsal.

 

AMERICANS WITH DISABLITIES ACT
Any student whose disabilities fall within ADA must inform the instructor at the beginning of the term of any special needs or equipment necessary to accomplish the requirements for this course.  Students who have or may be dealing with a disability or learning difficulty should speak to the instructor, contact the Office of Adaptive Needs Program (Wright 226) or call 670-3220/3221 as indicated in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

Students are expected to abide by those standards published in the Oracle and the Undergraduate Bulletin.
