Canons of the Council of Orléans II (June 23, 533)

1.  There is no excuse for not attending councils and ordinations.

2.  Metropolitans should summon a council once a year.

3.  No one should accept money for the appointment to a religious office.

4.  Priest who purchase their office are to be deposed.

5.  Bishops must promptly come to bury dead bishops, and they must not request payment for their services.

6.  The bishop who buries a dead bishop should take inventory of the church.

7.  Metropolitans should be elected by the bishops of the ecclesiastical province, the clergy, and the people.  They should be consecrated in the presence of all the bishops of the ecclesiastical province.

8.  A captured deacon who marries may not resume his office, and he must undergo penance.

9.  Priests must not live with seculars without the permission of their bishop.  Those who do are excluding from performing the duties of their office.

10.  No one should marry their father's wife.  Anyone who permits this will be anathema.

11.  Marriage cannot be dissolved.  Anyone who does so shall be deprived of communion.

12.  No one should sing, drink, or entertain himself in church.

13.  Abbots, keepers of relics, recluses, and priests cannot give letters of recommendation.

14.  Negligent clergy are deprived of the dignity of their rank.

15.  It is forbidden to accept offerings for the dead who were killed while committing a crime.

16.  It is forbidden to ordain an illiterate priest or one who is ignorant of the baptismal rite.

17.  Deaconesses are to return to a conjugal life.

18.  No one is to ordain a deaconess.

19.  Jews and Christians are not to intermarry.

20.  Christians who relapse into paganism are denied the Church.

21.  Abbots who disobey their bishops are forbidden from communion.
