"Gallia" and "Frankia" are two terms used to refer to the region later known as France.
"Gallia" or "Gaul" refers to this geographical area during the Roman times.
"Frankia" (or "Francia") refers to the same geographic area during the reign of two Frankish dynasties, the Merovingians and
the Carolingians. It must be noted that during Late Antiquity and the
Early Middle Ages, no one would have used any term resembling "Frankia"
to describe this area.
Instead, it would have been called the "Regnum Francorum" ("Kingdom of the
Franks").
The Gallia et Frankia website is designed to be a resource for the student of Gaul from
the Late Roman Period (c. 250 CE) through the end of the Carolingian period (c. 1000 CE).
Several areas of the website are currently under construction.
