The American Classical League operates the National Latin and Greek Teacher Placement Service in order to assist schools seeking qualified teachers of Latin and/or Greek and to assist teachers of Latin and/or Greek seeking employment.  The purpose of the Service is simply to facilitate contact between applicants and employers.  No evaluative judgment of any applicant will be made to an employer, and no information on a school or program will be given to an applicant other than that supplied by the employer.

This is a  FREE service.
No charge for schools listing a position.

Position openings for colleges and universities are found on the web site of the American Philological Association.  At this site, you will also find a summary of teaching certification requirements for the various states.

All job listings may be viewed without restriction.

Schools should submit all job listings using the online form included on this site.  Please inform us of any changes or when a position has been filled.  Please check the job list a day or so after you have submitted your position to verify that it has been posted and that all information is correct.  In this age of Spam, we will not send you any unsolicited email.  When you write to let us know that your position has been filled, we would be interested in learning whether and how our service has helped.

ACL provides a free online resume service for its members.  Click on the button for more information.

This site contains many links to assist schools and teachers in their searches:

For each state, one will find the name of a contact person who can answer by electronic mail brief, general questions about teaching in that particular state.  While many of these individuals also serve as formal or informal clearinghouses for their states, they do not represent the ACL Placement Service as agents or contacts between schools and candidates.  Their sole purpose here is to give general information and direction via email to both candidates and schools.  Click on the name to send an email.

For each state, a link is provided to the state department of education, where one may find information on certification requirements for that state; one or more links are provided to the home page of the state classics organization; links are provided to colleges and universities which train teachers of Latin and/or Greek; and numbers link to positions currently on the Job List.

The Director of the Placement Service is Peter Howard, Professor of Classics at Troy University in Troy, Alabama.  This site resides on the academic server of Troy University.
