All-girls commuter mathematics and science summer camp Mathematics, the Queen of Sciences (MaQS) )

June 4-7, 2012 (9am-4pm) and June 8, 2012(9am-noon)
A Follow-up meeting will be held on September 28, 2012 (9am-noon).
Funded by Troy University and a grant from
Mathematical Association of America Tensor foundation.

June 4 - Engineering and Math Day. June 6 - Robotics and Math Day.
June 5 - Aeronautics and Math Day. June 7 - Art and Math Day.
June 8 – Careers and Math Day (parents are invited on this day).

 

Twenty girls from rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grades will:

  • Obtain hands on experience with accomplished females in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields.
  • Experiment in hands on tutorials and activities taught by award winning teachers.
  • Actively engage in career related math and science workshops.
  • Participate in mentoring activities with positive female role models.
  • Explore careers in science, math, and technology areas.
  • Witness motivational speeches.
  • Gain mentoring from a female undergraduate student.
  • Receive free t-shirts and some educational materials and supplies.

Camp provides refreshments, lunch, and transportations for field trips. Parents are responsible for bringing students to Troy University – Dothan campus by 9am and pick them up by 4pm each day (by noon on Friday). Gils will attend a follow-up meeting on September 28, 2012. Normal cost is approximately $500 per each participant. However, it is free to girls who apply and qualify to participate.
