Course Common Information ColumnThis left hand column is 140 pixels wide. The column is intended as a consistent place to list common course information, news items or an index of links. Using it is optional, but recommended when you have links that need special attention. Sometimes this column is used to make sure that text does not cover your background used on the page. An example is found at: http://jschool. troy.edu/~trop/ It is possible to change the color of this column by selecting: Format ->Table ->Cell ->Cell Color. |
Content ColumnThis column is used to display the primary information you want your readers to see.. It should start with a title which can be either regular text or a graphic image, followed by the actual content. Any elements including graphics and tables can be included in this column if you wish to control the layout of your page. This column is 455 pixels wide. Template detailsThis template may be used to help create your personal or course web pages. Please feel free to copy the source for this page to use as the base structure for developing your own pages. Overall Page StructureThere are three main components to this template. At the top of the page is a header. The center of the page contains the Content Table. A footer is at the bottom of the page. The background color should always be white, and the entire page should be centered. The table should not have a border. It is only shown here for demonstration. HeaderThe header at the top of this page consists of the Spectrum graphic. You may want to substitute a graphic you create for your course or text identifying yourself or our course. Content TableThis is where the important part of your web page goes. The entire table is 595 pixels wide, with the left column measures 140 pixels wide and the right column measures 455 pixels wide. If you want your students to print your web pages, this width is too wide. You should change the entire table width to 535 pixels and the column widths to 110 and 425 pixels for the left and right columns. The border for your Content Table should be "0", the border here is only for demonstration. The basic table code: <TABLE WIDTH=595 CELLPADDING=8 CELLSPACING=0 BORDER=0> <TR> <TD VALIGN=TOP width="140"></TD> <TD VALIGN=TOP WIDTH="455"></TD> </TR> </TABLE> Most web page editing programs will automatically place this basic code in your document so that you will not have to worry about remembering the code. Using the two columns is recommended, but not required. FooterThe footer is at the bottom of the page. It contains the required "disclaimer" and an icon that you may want to use in creating an e-mail link to yourself. The footer also contains a "hot-link" to Spectrum's opening page. You may want to delete or change this link to TSU's Trojan server's address (http://www.troy.edu). The footer is a table and it is located outside the Content Table. The borders on this table are tuned off. |
