Workshop:  "Local History WORKS!  Using Your Past To Understand Your Future"

Learn how to identify, collect, and organize your personal past and family history within the larger context of the community you live and work in. This workshop will provide you with the practical skills you need to begin a family tree, write a business history, or become more aware of the history around you. Participants will learn how to use digital tools, conduct oral histories, and organize and preserve historical objects.

Presenter:  Dr. John Kvach of UAH

Dr. John Kvach is an Associate Professor of American History at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the Lead Scholar for the Alabama visit of "The Way We Worked." 

In 2012, Kvach was selected as a City Scholar for the NEH-funded program, “Making Sense of the American Civil War,” a discussion series at the Huntsville, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile Public Libraries commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Dr. Kvach received his BA in History and MA in Public History from West Virginia University and his Ph.D., in History from The University of Tennessee.  His publications include, De Bow’s Review: The Antebellum Vision of a New South (2013), published by the University Press of Kentucky.
